Water pollution degrades surface waters making them unsafe for drinking, fishing, swimming, and other activities. As authorized by the Clean Water Act, the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit program controls water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. Since its introduction in 1972, the NPDES permit program is responsible for significant improvements to our Nation’s water quality
Dr. Bond's responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the activities required by Osceola County’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
- Overseeing compliance with the NPDES permit including mapping and facilitating updates to the Primary Stormwater Drainage System, inspecting construction sites, monitoring illicit discharges, education and outreach, updating local ordinances and annual reporting to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
- Supervising and training NPDES inspectors.
- Managing consulting services needed to comply with the NPDES permit.
- Creating and managing training programs for County employees and provide initial training for incoming NPDES staff and department inspectors.
- Facilitate in creating and updating erosion and Sediment Control and Illicit Discharge ordinances.
- Coordinating with plan reviewers on NPDES permits required for private and public construction.
- Working closely with City, County, State and Federal Government on NPDES compliance and associated activities.
