Doctor of Plant Medicine Alumni Association
The Doctor of Plant Medicine Alumni Association (DPMAA) is designed to foster awareness among friends and graduates of the program about activities relevant to plant health.
As of December of 2006, the Plant Medicine program has 32 graduates. These working professionals represent a diversity of interests within the emerging field of plant medicine. Alumni have found that their broad-based education (comprising soil/crop science, plant pathology, and entomology) prepares them for a variety of employment opportunities.
DPM training is especially timely given the renewed interest in holistic, integrated solutions to real-world problems. Current alumni are perfectly suited for, but not limited to, positions in: crop consulting, integrated pest management, regulatory agriculture, cooperative extension, agribusiness, plant disease clinics and international agriculture.
Therefore, the purpose of this association will be:
- To provide the DPMSO with funds for Doctor of Plant Medicine Alumni Association Scholarship Fund (to be endowed in the future) and DPMSO activities.
- To ensure the continued involvement of alumni with the Plant Medicine program and DPMSO.
- To provide the program leaders with feedback about emerging trends in their respective fields, which may necessitate changes to the program’s curriculum.
- To establish a centralized point of contact between DPM alumni and recent graduates seeking career guidance, or for alumni to provide notice when suitable jobs become available their organization.
- To create a body of stakeholders to lobby for/against issues of interest and importance to plant health.
- To create a standard-setting body that will monitor and enforce a code of conduct which a plant doctor is expected to uphold.
- To serve as counsel for the establishment and evolution of other plant medicine programs and alumni association chapters.
- To aid in the creation of a plant doctor certification program.
