Methyl Bromide Alternatives Research: Soil Solarization, UF-IFAS

Shubin Saha worked as a research assistant with the Entomology and Nematology and Plant Pathology Departments of the University of Florida-IFAS. He compared the effectiveness of soil solarization alone and in combination with ‘Iron Clay’ cowpea to soon to be banned methyl bromide over two seasons for reduction of soilborne diseases of bell pepper. Soil solarization alone was superior to methyl bromide in one of the seasons where field flooding occurred following two hurricanes.
